Symptoms

Attempting to validate an S3 Compatible Additional Destination in Backup Configuration might result in a timeout and an error such as: 
 

Cause

According to the "Buckets Overview" documentation for S3 Buckets, if you do not select a region from the available regions and endpoint listed in the "Approved Endpoints and Regions" it will default to us-east-1.  This should work for most places using AWS S3.  But some S3 Compatible providers use their own custom region, and this would cause the validation and backups to timeout and fail.

Resolution

Using the "expected" bucket destination can satisfy the authorization header requirements.
