Symptoms
When restoring an account backup via the WHM Backup Restoration interface, the following error occurs during the restore:
ERROR: time out reached
Cause
WHM backup restorations utilize a timeout to ensure the backup restore doesn't run indefinitely. In the event that the restore exceeds the defined restoration time limit, the restore operation will exit.
The cause can also be a large cache directory that causes the timeout to be reached.
Resolution
Increase the backup restore time limit in the backup configuration options:
- Log in to WHM as
root - Navigate to Home / Backup / Backup Configuration
- Increase the Maximum Backup Restoration Timeout value to your desired limit
- Click the Save Configuration button at the bottom of the page
If you find the restore is still experiencing the error after increasing the timeout, the common cause is an excess of files/Inodes. In these cases it may be necessary to review the backup for a large cache directory and either move it and its contents out of the backup or delete them (if they're not needed).
Additionally, if you are attempting to restore a large backup, you may want to perform a manual restore with the restorepkg script.
