Symptoms

The SSL for a service subdomain has been renewed, but an expired SSL is still being used. When checking in "WHM / SSL/TLS / Manage SSL Hosts," two SSLs are installed for the subdomain.

Description

WHM allows you to enable "service subdomains." These are automatically created subdomains that take common cPanel services and give them access points on subdomains as part of a domain added to your server, such as cPanel, WHM, and webmail:

When a service subdomain has been added as a subdomain within the account as well (e.g. webmail.domain.tld), two SSLs for the subdomain can exist on the server. This can cause problems with the expired certificate being used when the SSL for the main domain expires, but the “sub” domain’s independent SSL renews.

We've opened an internal case for our development team to investigate this further. For reference, the case number is CPANEL-47134. Follow this article to receive an email notification when a solution is published in the product.

Workaround

Remove the unused SSL.
